ELATEC is member of FCF Promotion Forum in Japan

Street in Japan

An FCF Promotion Forum membership enables ELATEC to read the FCF (Felicitous Common use Format) Identification Campus Cards regulated by this forum, and is the first step to develop the Japanese market.

This specific type of ID and access card is mandatory in higher security applications, e.g., for government and education projects. As a member, ELATEC received the key to access the coded area, and developed special firmware that allows ELATEC’s local partner Cosy to offer convenient solutions to all end users, in particular at universities.

Cosy – a PaperCut Authorized Reseller – has long-term experience in offering solution packages of PaperCut software and user authentication to universities. Since package solutions require a costly PC setup, Cosy was looking for a better alternative to fit end users’ needs: more convenience, less components and reduced costs. ELATEC readers fulfill all requirements and are now able to provide FCF cards for use in combination with PaperCut and many other document accounting solutions.

FCF is a shared usage format of Sony FeliCa for Identification Cards, introduced at nearly 300 universities and other educational institutions as well as at 96 companies and local governments in Japan. Around 150 companies, each providing diverse services, have joined the FCF Promotion Forum, which launched in 2004.
